We found an albino red-tailed hawk on a nest along the Ohio River yesterday. At first we thought we had an eagle on a nest but closer inspection showed too much white. We were in a boat and it was difficult to make out the details. So we marked the location well and decided we would have to check it out more carefully from the shore with a scope.

When we came by the nest location about a half hour later. We saw this big white bird flying near the nest and then perch in a tree nearby. It looked all white. Then it flew back to the nest and we could see a little reddish brown in the tail. Quite a unexpected find.

The nest is on the WV shore near the Wood/Jackson County line. It is not readily accessible but is visible from the Ohio shore at the Forked Run State Park boat ramp in Meigs County. It is about a quarter mile downstream from the boat ramp.
