the piping plover at headlands beach state park was observed all this morning (05/24/2008) at various points along the entire headlands beach from the far west side to the middle of the nature preserve beach. my posting of yesterday about the piping plover was not correct as i learned after my post that one observer had seen the bird briefly before it was scared off by a park a.t.v. this lingering bird is certainly a very, very late migrant.
again this morning the connecticut warbler sang, though not as frequently, from the thick foliage just beyond the end of the fence of the fisherman's path. several people got to see the bird. an olive-sided flycatcher in dead trees near the parking lot at mentor lagoons rounded out a good morning of birding.
