Do you know which book published in the last year has been called “a must for everyone interested in birds, Ontario, and the natural world”? It’s the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Ontario! 

The book is hard cover, over 700 pages, and contains more than 900 state-of-the-art maps and 400 photographs. It provides accessible information on the distribution and population status, breeding biology and abundance of all 286 species of birds that breed in the province. It also shows and explains how the status of each species has changed since historical times, particularly in the 20 years since the first atlas was completed.

The book can answer important conservation questions that provide insight into patterns of environmental decline (and improvement!) in Ontario. From the atlas you can learn 
·         which parts of the province are most important to each species? 
·         which species have increased or decreased the most in recent years? 
·         what species is the most abundant in Ontario – the answer will surprise you!
·         how overall patterns have changed among groups of birds?
