This afternoon I had a few minutes and stopped in at Prairie Oaks Darby Bend
Lakes area off Amity Road on the far west side of Franklin County. Not much
was going on, but as I got ready to leave, I spotted something unusual in a
small tree. Sitting right at the top of the tree was a beautiful Northern
Shrike! It sat for a few minutes and then flew to another little tree just a
few feet away. I was able to watch it for a good 10 minutes from a couple of
locations, so my identification is about 99% sure. Lovely bird. Don't know
if it's unusual to see them at this time of year around here or not, but he
certainly was accommodating.
