This afternoon there were four beautiful white Snow Geese mixed in with several hundred Canadas at the Melvin Gravel Pit. Melvin is seven miles east of Wilmington on Federal Highway 22. They are friendly to birders but want you to stop in to the office to let them know who you are. Stay with their rules. They prefer your scoping from the edge of the parking rather than on the grass and definitely do not go near the edge of the grass. In the past we have had many more Snow Geese along with a Ross's and some White-fronted Geese so the four I saw may have been a few from a larger flock.

Having Lenna Mae spot the first Red-breasted Nuthatch of this season added to my good feeling. We hope it will stick around all winter as usual.

Chilly Birding Cheers, Larry Gara
