We spent the day in the area of the Wilds and the AEP lands. We missed the
Merlin, the Golden Eagle and the Short-eared Owls. Raptors we did see included
Cooper's Hawk, Harriers, Red-tailed Hawks (including the leucistic one),
Kestrels and as many as 16 Rough-legged Hawks.
A pair of Pine Warblers were at the Windy Hill AEP Building, bugging on the
steps, black roof, and gutter and eating poison ivy berries across the road.
Towards the end of the day, we saw a SHRIKE at the corner of 146 and Zion
Ridge Road, perched in the locust trees, flying across the road to the hillside
where the Wilds Mountain Bike Trail parking lot is. We didn't get enough
details to determine the specific species as we were losing light and time.
The roads are very muddy for those who venture there.
