I've just observed well over 1,000 Lapland Longspurs on CH44 north of Upper Sandusky in Wyandot Co. CH44 is east off of SR53 about 2 miles north of US23. They seem to frequent corn stubble in the area and have a handful of Snow Buntings mixed in. Quite a sight to see 1,000+ longspurs in flight rattling and calling. All fields in this area contain Horned Larks, Buntings, and Longspurs in lesser numbers.
5 Crossbill areas were checked with a total of zero crossbills found. I hope this irruption isn't over; I never tire seeing them.
