Two carloads of local birders checked reservoirs today. I was with 6 other birders and we visited Seneca, Salt Fork, Piedmont, Clendeninng, Tappan and Lake Buckhorn.
Highlights were 7 Red-necked Grebes at Tappan (4 in one scope-view), 9 Long-tailed Ducks and 1 Red-necked Grebe at Piedmont (from just south of the dam) and 1 Red-throated Loon at Seneca. I can give total numbers of waterfowl for the day if anyone wants to contact me privately.
There may well have been 2-3 more Red-necked Grebes at Tappan -it's hard to keep track of them - our count was of birds that we were 100% sure of...
The second carload had 3 Long-tailed Ducks at Pleasant Hill, 1 Red-necked Grebe at Clear Fork, and later in the evening, 3 White-winged Scoters and 4 Long-tailed Ducks at Wright Marsh in the Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area south of Wooster.
