17 Holmes County area birders were at Conneaut on Friday, including many with lots of experience over the last 20 years. Four of us stayed overnite and a total of 15 or so were at the hawk-watch site on Saturday. Four of our own records were broken on Friday. We have never seen so many falcons or Broad-wings on a spring watch. Ripley, N.Y. also set their all-time record on Friday for Broad-winged Hawks. It was the best day any of us have had for watching raptors in Ohio. Saturday totals were not complete yet - the day was slow in comparison to Friday, although a very cooperative immature Golden Eagle was a special treat. Here are the numbers for Friday. ** indicates new spring record or *tied the old one for us (our local records, not Ohio records).
