I went to Orwell Marsh in Ashtabula Co. yesterday, staying from late afternoon until 9:00 PM.  Among the birds seen/heard were: gadwalls (pair), 6 blue-winged teal, 4 green-winged teal, wood duck, 5 hooded mergansers, green heron, 2 semipalmated plovers, 40 lesser yellowlegs, 8 solitary sandpipers, spotted sandpipers, 9 least sandpipers, Am. woodcock, red-headed woodpeckers (pair), pileated woodpecker, e. kingbird, yellow-throated vireo, a singing brown creeper, e. bluebirds, palm warblers, yellow-rumped warblers, c. yellowthroat, rose-breasted grosbeaks, and Baltimore oriole.  I really enjoyed seeing shorebirds perched on posts/snags--spotties, solitaries, even a yellowlegs--like they do on breeding grounds.  Any of the duck species mentioned may be attempting to nest there.  I didn't hear any nocturnal birds other than the woodcock, but the noise from a party at the adjacent property and from passing vehicles made listening difficult.  Later, Craig
