I visited several areas of this south Columbus Park yesterday, looking for early waterfowl & late landbird migrants. I stopped at Heron Pond, Elk Run, the Groveport-Blacklick BikePath (GBBP), and the Confluence area. These areas act as good migrant funnels through suburban south Columbus. Waterbird movement was slow, but, despite the cold overcast windy conditions, there were lots of lingering landbird migrants. Notables included

Raptors - 12 Turkey Vultures soared past Elk Run, while Red-tails and Coopers Hawks were at several stops. A Sharpie was patrolling the GBBP.

Waterfowl - hardly any, save the expected geese & Mallards. A Pied-billed Grebe was at the Confluence area, while several Wood Ducks were in Blacklick Creek along the GBBP.

Woodpeckers - no Red-headed, but at least 2 Sapsuckers were lurking in the forest edge along the GBBP

Tree Swallows - not many; a group of 5 were over the Confluence area.

Kinglets,Wrens - lots of kinglets, with both several Ruby-crowns & Golden-crowns at multiple spots. No House Wrens, but a Winter Wren was still lurking along the wind-sheltered Bluebell Trail at the Confluence area.

Thrushes - not much deep forest here except along the above-mentioned trail in the Confluence area, and that's where 3 Hermit & 1 Swainson's were hiding. Robins were also very noticeable, with small flocks at every stop, totalling perhaps 150 birds over 2 hours

Mimids - a Mockingbird was at their usual spot along the entrance road to the Confluence area, while 2 Catbirds remained along the GBBP.

Warblers - Yellow-rumped were everywhere, often in double-digits, but picking through them produced a Redstart at Elk Run and a Blackpoll at the Confluence.

Sparrows - small flocks of Chipping were at several stops, topped by 16-20 at Heron Pond. The fields north of Heron Pond also had several Field and 2 Savannah Sparrows. White-throated were also abundant, with small flocks at most stops.

Blackbirds - no big flocks, but flyover Redwings and grackles were at several stops.
