Hoping that the blustery weather would strand interesting birds on the beach here or in the nearby woodland, I spent an hour this morning hiking this area. Despite the wind, there was enough shelter in the lee of the forest and beach to build up a good list, with highlights of

Waterfowl - nothing of note, as the lower portion of the reservoir was nearly empty except for a few Mallards and geese.

Gulls - 55-60 Ring-bills and 10 Bonapartes were a good find at the beach, especially since the latter were in their snappy Spring plumage.

Shorebirds - little other than a few Kildeer

Flycatchers - Pewee and Acadian were in the woods, while 2 FOS Willow Flycatchers were in the scrublands near the Visitors Center. 2 E. Kingbirds were near the dam.

Swallows - lots of Cliff Swallows were joined by Barn, Tree, Rough-winged, and a few Purple Martins

Vireos - 5+ Warbling and 1 Red-eyed

Thrushes - 1 Wood and 2 Swainson's, along with the expected Robins and Bluebirds

Mimids - 8-10 Catbirds were in the edges, while 1 Mockingbird and 1 Brown Trhasher were around the Visitors Center

Warblers - Yellow Warblers were common (8+), while most others were hard to find. These included Nashville, Tennessee, Magnolia (2), Chesnut-sided (2), Redstart (2), Ovenbird, and Common Yellowthroats (2)

Sparrows - Field Sparrows were abundant, but more interesting were 1-2 White-crowned and 1 Savannah in open areas near the Visitors Center

Others - single Scarlet tanager, Rose-br.Grosbeak, and Indigo Bunting were welcome on a windy day, but were almost eclipsed by 6-7 Baltimore Orioles
