Hi All,

If you're looking for a fun, family-friendly bird festival this weekend consider visiting the 3rd Annual Queen City Bird Festival being hosted at the Hueston Woods State Park Nature Center near Oxford, Ohio.

The festival offers bird-banding demonstrations, children's games and activities, guided bird walks for beginners, birding canoe excursions, and live music. There will also be presentations on topics like 'Birds in the Classroom', 'Birding in Southwest Ohio', 'Birding Basics', 'How Birding Helps Birds', 'Birding by Ear', 'The Birds of the Antarctic Peninsula', and 'Photographing Birds'.

The bird festival will also feature a keynote presentation by Thane Maynard, Executive Director of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. Thane is best known as writer and host of numerous wildlife programs, including the daily public radio series The 90-Second Naturalist, which airs on stations across North America. He has also been featured on Good Morning America, The Today Show, CBS This Morning, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Thane is the author of thirteen books on wildlife. His latest work is a book he co-authored with Jane Goodall, Hope For Animals & Their World, published in the fall of 2009.

The forests of Hueston Woods State Nature Preserve offers ample opportunities to observe Northern Parulas, Yellow-throated Warblers, Hooded Warblers, Kentucky Warblers, Acadian Flycatchers, Pileated Woodpeckers, the occasional Cerulean Warbler, and many many more.

Exhibitors at the festival will include organizations like the National Aviary and the American Birding Association.

There will be raffles featuring prizes provided by Eagle Optics, Wild Birds Unlimited, and others.

The festival is sponsored by the Avian Research & Education Institute, Audubon Miami Valley, The College of Mount St. Joseph, and Oxbow, Inc.

This is a perfect opportunity to introduce kids, other family members, and friends to the wonders of birds and birding!
