Sorry for the delay in posting, home computer in SNAFU mode again last few days.  On 12/11 I went to Ashtabula Co., visited Pymatuning Res. and Conneaut harbor.  Also spent several hours slow-cruising rural backroads in the eastern half of Ashtabula Co.  Pymatuning was open south of the Rte. 85 causeway.  Most of the waterfowl and gulls were just over the border in Pennsylvania waters, but the birds do move around.  Present were 550 Canada geese, 55 Am. black ducks, 30 c. goldeneyes, hooded mergansers, 22 common mergansers, 2 ad. bald eagles, and 275 Bonaparte's gulls.  At Conneaut harbor were 125 mallards, 14 redheads, buffleheads, red-breasted mergansers, 9 ruddy ducks, horned grebe, great blue heron, 8 Am. coots, Bonaparte's gulls, great black-backed gulls, and a SHORT-EARED OWL flying around the outer breakwall.  During the day in Ashtabula Co. I found: three flocks of wild turkeys, total of 79 birds; 2 Cooper's hawks, 2 red-shouldered hawks,
3 red-tailed hawks, 3 Am. kestrels, 22 horned larks, e. bluebird, and 25 Am. tree sparrows.  Another red-shouldered hawk was in Vernon Twp., Trumbull Co.  The following sightings are from 12/13 in eastern Mahoning Co.....at Evans L. (mostly open): 5 gadwalls, 52 n. shovelers, buffleheads, 20 hooded mergansers, ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebe, bald eagle, 3 Am. coots, many ring-billed and herring gulls, and 11 horned larks.  Mahoning R. is running high, only 3 hooded mergansers seen.  A n. mockingbird was in Struthers.  Both sharp-shinned and Cooper's hawks continue to make appearances in my Poland Twp. yard.  Yesterday afternoon 12/14 a flock of 45 tundra swans passed overhead at 3:10 while I was shoveling the driveway.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
