At least twice a week I do the commute from Cleveland to Mansfield and back. Looking out for RTHAs is one of the ways I pass the time. Usually every two miles or so I spot one not far from the road.

I'm writing because today on the ride home, my wife and I spotted easily three times the usual number, many of them quite close by each other. They were in all manner of situations: perched on trees, many perched on signs, several picking at carrion in the median. The IDs are solid---red tails or scapular markings or belly bands.

I'm assuming this remarkable abundance was owing both to love in the air and the newly exposed ground offering its bounty of previously-concealed roadkill. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this or has any other explanation.

Also, on 71 just north of 30, saw my first Turkey Vulture of 2011. Spring is nigh!

Noah
