Hi Everyone,

Beth and I went down to the lake for a quick look this morning. Although the
variety of ducks was not as great for us as was reported yesterday, and we
did not get the Glaucous Gull, it was a good visit.

In brilliant sunshine and gold temperatures we had:

Turning basin‹between Dike 14 and the 72nd Street marina:

The Eared Grebe, as reported by Jen and others
Red-Breasted Mergansers‹many hundreds. We saw some nice courtship displays.
In general, males far outnumbered females
Hooded Mergansers‹a few pairs
Wood Duck‹a few
Mallard‹several pairs
Bufflehead‹several
Lesser Scaup‹one pair
Mute Swan-1
Canada Goose‹several
Double-Crested Cormorant‹ several skeins of a few dozen each flew over while
we were on the lakefront
Lots of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls

55th Street marina and breakwall:

More of the same: lots of Red-breasted Mergansers and a few each of Hooded
Mergansers, Bufflehead, Mallards, Canada Geese, many Ring-billed Gulls
Lesser Scaup‹perhaps a dozen pairs
Redhead‹one pair
Horned Grebe-1
Pied-billed Grebe-1
American Coot‹perhaps 20
Song Sparrow‹1
American Robin‹1
European Starling‹3

Best wishes,

Steve Cagan
