Dave Slager (the legend) Just called (3:20pm) me to say he just had a PURPLE GALLINULE at Batelle Darby Creek Metro Park along Darby Creek Drive and Kuhlwein Rd. This is the same location as the recent reports of American Bittern (which he had there as well today) and the patch the SE Owls were this winter. Thats what I call a good patch of habitat. He said it is in the first more open pond with cattails just north of the parking lot there on Kuhlwein and the portable toilet there, just on the other side of the impoundment from the bikepath/trail (runs parallel to Darby Crk. Dr). Its a little difficult to see everything at once there, so it might be there and just hiding behind some cattails, so patience may be required. Also of interest was another Purple Gal. reported to eBird from Ottawa near Magee and Metzger, but I don't know any details on that bird. Good Luck!
Ben Warner
