Ohio Birders and OBBA enthusiasts:

The Ohio Ornithological Society's annual meeting will be at Shawnee
State Park and Forest, in southern Ohio, June 3-5. This area has
some of the best early summer birding anywhere in the state, with a
great variety of breeding species. Some 18 species of wood warblers
breed at Shawnee and nearby areas. The focus of the OOS meeting will
be the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II, now in its final field
season. You'll learn that OBBA is accessible to birders of all
experience levels and that atlasing is quite similar to the very
popular Christmas Bird Count. It offers many of us a window to the
lives of breeding birds and their fascinating behaviors. There will
be many guided field trips to look for breeding birds, but as usual
we'll keep an eye out for anything interesting...from plants to
butterflies to herps. Joining us for the weekend will be special
guest speaker, Ted Floyd, editor of Birding magazine and author of
the Smithsonian Field Guide to Birds of North America. Ted will
present a keynote talk on Saturday evening, "Birding at Night: The
Final Frontier", and a Saturday afternoon workshop, "Bare-naked
Birding: Clothing Optional, Binoculars Prohibited", where he'll focus
on observing breeding bird behavior without binoculars (imagine that!).

Don't miss this exciting event! For more info & registration forms,
visit OOS's website: http://www.ohiobirds.org/
Hope to see you in Shawnee!!
