Interesting blackbird, Craig. Red-winged vs Tricolored is a tough ID. Tricoloreds typically show a deep BLOOD RED epaulet with a thick border of white. Red-wings are variable, showing a yellow to beige border against an orange-red or orange epaulet. My guess, just from this ONE photo, is that your bird is a Red-winged Blackbird. The epaulet is far more orange then deep blood red. If possible, a series of photos of your bird may help to show more color, and a better idea of overall gloss or lack there of, overall, on the bird, as well as bill shape.
