About 10:30 am, I saw two blue herons at that first wetland area on your right as you come down Darby Creek Rd. from Rt. 40. I had parked at Kuhlwein and walked up--watching the traffic carefully. They were in the water near the far bank. I then walked back to the bike path, walked to the Training Barn and then the old Darby Dan racetrack. At that point, I walked up an old road to the white barn just north of the above-mentioned wetland. Basically I did a big square of a walk. Right after I clambered over the gate--not a pretty sight for sure--I looked up to see three birds in the sky--sure enough THREE blue herons--all adults--circling several times, until they landed in some low trees on the far bank. One eventually flew down to the wetland and disappeared in the cattails. One just plain disappeared..and one continued to sit in the tree. What a sighting in Ohio. They did not fly north...hope they are there for other birders tomorrow or in future days. Hope Metro Parks could provide some more parking--at the barn area--and maybe some platforms?? But just to have this resource is wonderful--I love the Metro Parks!
