I spent about 4 hours at Conneaut harbor this morning/early afternoon. There were lots of birds around the whole time I was there. Only a modest number of waterbirds migrated past, not too surprising with the winds staying SW. The wind was supposed to swing to the west today, but it never happened. It was a real treat to not only see but listen to the many Bonaparte's gulls and dunlins on the spit - they were very talkative today. The day's highlights: 20 tundra swans, 6 gadwalls, 4 buffleheads, 9 c. goldeneyes, hooded merganser, 140 red-breasted mergansers, 6 common loons, pied-billed grebe, 20 horned grebes, 2 great blue herons, 6 black-crowned night-herons, 12 Am. coots, 1 Am. golden-plover (my latest ever there), 4 sanderlings, 125+ dunlins, 1000 Bonaparte's gulls, 2 great black-backed gulls, and 3 common terns. I left Conneaut around 1:00 PM and headed towards Pymatuning L. next. On the way, along Rte. 7, I saw a n. harrier in Monroe
Twp. and 2 Am. kestrels in Pierpont Twp. At the Pymatuning L. causeway (Ohio side) were: 50 buffleheads, 50 ruddy ducks, bald eagle, Am. coot, and a few Bonaparte's gulls. Craig Holt, Lowellville
