On Sunday Jan 1 in the afternoon I was at Wendy Park and parked all the
way at the end near the Cuyahoga River. There were two Kestrels hunting
on a wire over the fence to the south of the lot. When I first saw the
Kestrel on the wire it had a mouse in its talons. I then saw the kestrel
fly over to a telephone pole and stick the dead mouse in an opening in a
small pipe or electrical conduit on the side of the pole. That is, he was
storing it there for later consumption. I tried to look this up but
couldn't find anything about Kestrel's doing this. This was the day
before the big snow squalls. It was as if it knew the forcast and was
preparing by stocking up the refrigerator! Does anyone know of this kind
of behavior in Kestrels or other Falcons?
