WOW! The Virginia Rails have returned and at least 2 were calling in the
wetland to the left and right of the blind. You could hear 'ki-deek' calls
and 'grunting'.

Yesterday I counted 15 Common Snipe in flight during the rain and wind.
Today they were not moving as a group but individuals were flying in-and-out
of the wetland to the fields where they could be heard 'winnowing' (my first
encounter with this). If you don't have a recording to listen to, it
reminds you of pigeons cooing in the distance. They were in the fields
north, west and east of the wetland.

Finally, as I was leaving I heard a Woodcock 'peenting' in the area where
you can take a plastic bag to clean-up after your dog.

All the other birds reported recently including Savannah Sparrows and one
Meadow Lark that flushed and took-to-ground quickly.
