Today (Aprill 22) I photographed an active junco nest in Moreland Hills. It has only one egg so far and is located at ground level in a pile of pine needles (bale type for landscaping (longleaf from the Carolinas?)). It's like a little burrow, quite a bit different from two I photographed last Spring on this same property, which were both in manmade structures by the way (a gutter and a planter).

I'll have to check my old notes (if I've kept them), but last year my first nest find was in late March well before the April 9 date listed in Peterjohn. Still fun to discover and quite accidentally as my mind was on trout lilly and white bleeding hearts and ramps in the ravine.

Hope everyone is enjoyed the beautiful day and the birds.
