Not the banner Broad-wing day we hoped for.  After leaving Malek to a dead flight shortly after 4 PM, we immediately began encountering Broad-wingeds within the city limits.  We pulled into a downtown parking lot & added 300 more birds in the next two hours.  We actually pulled over to tally the final kettle of 30 birds at K-Mart on the way to the interstate, and then waited for a couple more to trickle by to hit 700.  I worry that these birds were passing to the south all day, and we missed the bulk of the Broad-winged flight.  The goshawk was the definite highlight, as it stayed in view for quite some time, and amazingly, kettled up with a Sharp-shinned & a Cooper's for amazing comparisons.  The bird was heavy-bodied, broad-winged and husky, with a buffy wash to the underparts.

Good birding -
