Spring migrants seem to be taking their good ole time reaching my little
section of the county, while some winter visitors are reluctant to leave.

White-throated sparrows continue to make a daily appearance and can be
heard singing all around our property.

However, the big surprise was waking up this morning to find 7 evening
grosbeaks. I opened a window to scare away a squirrel and thought I heard
grosbeaks chirping in the sugar maple located just beyond the feeder. Lo
and behold, I looked up and there they were. Five were males and two were
females. They stayed for about 20 minutes frequenting the two feeders in
the front yard.

FOY's for the year so far have been house wren, eastern towhee, blue-gray
gnatcatcher, american woodcock and golden- and ruby-crowned kinglets.
Nothing too exciting.

Anxiously awaiting to put my new Vanguards to the test this spring.

Happy birding,

Michele Skolmutch
between Nashville and Glenmont, Holmes County
