The Columbus Audubon trip to this NW suburb found a cold morning that kept down all but the hardiest migrants. We stopped at Kiwanis Park, Indian Run, the Sawmill Wetland, and Koscuisko Park. Cold, dry conditions appeared to suppress both flowering and insect hatches, so birding was slow. Oddly, Sawmill wetlands (which were open thanks to the Friends of Sawmill Wetlands) had the best birds, despite being the smallest site. Notables included:

Wood Ducks - had a flyby pair at Kiwanis
American Wigeon - one male was paddling upriver at Kiwanis
Great Blue Herons - steady stream of commuters flying up and down the Scioto River
Turkey Vultures - steady movement, with 20-25 in 3 hours; we even had a mating pair at Indian Run, where they may nest.
Cooper's Hawk - 1 at Indian Run
Red-tailed Hawk - nesting pair very obvious at Sawmill, with the female already on the nest
Woodpeckers - nothing unexpected, but lots of Red-bellieds and Downies, with the latter often fighting and displaying
E.Phoebe - 1 bird was just below Shewanee Falls on Indian Run, flying down to pick insects off the leaf litter
Tree Swallows - 10-12 birds were flying and chittering around riverside snags at Kiwanis.
Red-br.Nuthatch - 1 birds was foraging in the woods at Sawmill wetland
Winter Wren - 1 was seen by 2 observers in the second fen along the boardwalk at Kiwanis by 2 observers
Golden-cr.Kinglets - 2 were feeding around the wetland trees at Sawmill wetlands
White-throated Sparrows - a few were at most sites, including singing birds at Kiwanis
Fox Sparrow - 1 bright red bird was lurking in the scrubby edge at Sawmill
Juncos - small groups were at both Indian Run, Sawmill, and Koscuisko
Blackbirds - the most conspicuous 'migrants' of the morning, with small but steady #s of Redwings, grackles, and cowbirds

A brief stop at Sharon Woods on the way back found small groups of L.Scaup and Ring-necked Ducks on Shrock Lake, which was also being skimmed by 12+ Tree Swallows and 2 Rough-winged Swallows (my FOS).
