I bike-birded the bikepath along Blacklick Creek from Blacklick Woods down through Portman Park and Chatterton Greenbelt, then made a side trip over to Pick Ponds. The riparian forest and successional fields along the Creek had many interesting species, but the ponds here (Chatterton) and at Pick Ponds had high water levels that discouraged all but large herons. Interestingly, the riaprian forests had increased numbers of species I normally find in mature upland woods, like Wood Thrushes, Acadian Flycatchers, and Red-eyed Vireos. Either they're having a banner year here, or some of them have been forced from Ash-depleted woods to these riparian corridors. Notable finds for the morning included:

Great Egrets - at least 8 were around Pick Ponds, most of them at Teal Pond
Green Heron - 1 was a flyover at Ellis Pond in Pick Ponds
Osprey - at least 2 were hanging around Teal Pond at Pick Ponds
Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 1 was singing in the Chatterton Greenbelt
Willow Flycatchers - 2 were along the Blacklick bikepath west of Gender Rd; 2 more were on the Meadowlark Tr. at Pick Ponds
Acadian Flycatcher - unusually high numbers in creekside forest from Blacklick (3-4) down to Chatterton (3)
Swallows - low #s except for Barns which were widespread.
Purple Martins - a roost of 12 birds was in a dead ash along the multipurpose trail loop at Blacklick Woods
Wood Thrushes - surprising numbers along the Blacklick Trail, with 3-4 at Chatterton especially unusual
Mockingbirds - singers were along the Blacklick bikepath west of Gender and at the Wood Duck picnic area at Pick Ponds
Brown Thrasher - 1 was foraging along the path at Chatterton Greenbelt
Yellow Warblers - single birds at many locations; many were giving the 'zip zip' flight call of migrants
Yellow-throated Warblers - singers were at Blacklick Woods trail loop and Portman Park
Black&White Warbler - another male was singing in a grape tangle, this one at Portman Park
Yellow-br.Chat - the territorial bird along the Blacklick multipurpose loop is still singing at that location
Com.Yellowthroats - still large #s singing, including 4 at Blacklick and 9+ around Pick Ponds
Blue Grosbeak - a male was singing in a shrub-studded field along the Blacklick bikepath west of Gender Rd
Baltimore Orioles - single birds were at Blacklick, Portman Park, and Chatterton Greenbelt, none singing
Orchard oriole - 1 continues to sing along the Meadowlark Trail at Pick Ponds
