The past several nights have seen an uptick of migrant Common Nighthawks here in Gahanna. The choice spot is the new Price Rd Park bikepath, just north of I-270 as it borders Port of Columbus Airport, where the birds seem to mill around before striking out over the open fields of the airport. The past 5 nights here have had totals of 4, 1, 3, 26, and 78. This correlates well with a slightly delayed first wave of Nighthawk migrants, probably lingering a bit because of the balmy weather. Numbers should taper off over the next few days, then perk up again in the middle of September. Has anyone else in central Ohio noticed large Nighthawk flocks over the past 2 evenings?
