I visited the Wilderness Rd peat ponds for the first time in 2wks. After
the rain yesterday, the ponds held a little more water. Despite lots of
mudflat habitat, overall, shorebird numbers were quite low. Walking down
the east side road, there were no birds in the front ponds, but were a few
further back. I really had to look hard for them. I found a group of
plovers resting at the far peaty edge of the furthest pond, including 8
golden plovers and one black-bellied.
