I had another interesting day afield in eastern Mahoning Co. today. Highlight was a male white-winged crossbill at Pine L. It was in a conifer. There actually aren't any great number of pines around Pine L. Both this reservoir and Evans L. were 99% frozen, but around the 1% liquid were numerous waterbirds. At Evans L: Canada geese, redhead, 2 ring-necked ducks, 3 greater scaup, 8 hooded mergansers, 1500 ring-billed gulls, and 100 herring gulls. At Pine L: Canada geese, mallards, 7 Am. wigeon, 2 canvasbacks, 3 redheads, 35 ring-necked ducks, 3 lesser scaup, 15 hooded mergansers, bald eagle, and ring-billed gulls. In various places in Mahoning Co. today I saw sharp-shinned hawk, Cooper's hawks, red-tailed hawks, red-shouldered hawks, n. harrier, and Am. kestrel. Also 3 widely spaced n. mockingbirds. Later, Craig
