Yesterday evening, then again this morning, marked the first house wren of the year at our home
in western Holmes County, singing loud 'n' clear from the edge of the neighbor's woods. Welcome
back, little stinker!
Also as of yesterday, the tree swallows (a personal favorite) that nest at our place seem to have
progressed from the stage of flying in circles around, inspecting, and/or sitting on the nest boxes
to actually spending some time inside them, typically with one of the pair sitting on top of the
box, the other with its head poking beadily out of the hole for many minutes at a time, perhaps
checking out the view or wondering how they are going to swing the payments. Owner financing
available! Hee.
