It was perfect weather for raptors today. I witnessed many courting pairs of Red Tail Hawks and I saw similar behavior from the Northern Harriers. I also witnessed a female Harrier and a Roughie make many harassing passes over (and through) flocks of Canadas and Mallards. Neither made any real attempt to grab any prey. I believe they were either looking to separate a weak bird or they were just messing with them. Here are the totals from my adventure.
Chardon, OH - Delorme pg.32 (D-2)
1 - Bald Eagle
2 - Red Tail Hawk
2 - Turkey Vulture
North Bloomfield, OH - Delorme pg.43 (A-41/2)
1 - Turkey Vulture
23 - Turkey
3 - Swans (could not ID type)
6 - Red Tail Hawk
1 - Red-shouldered Hawk
Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area - Delorme pg.43 (A-5)
28 - Red Tail Hawk
2 - Red-shouldered
Hawk
1 - Rough-legged Hawk
10 - Northern Harrier
3 - Bald Eagle
1 - Cooper's Hawk
1 - Sharp-shinned Hawk
3 - Turkey Vulture
3 - Eastern Bluebird
89 - Tundra Swan
8 - Turkey
2 - Kildeer
Many - Red-winged Blackbirds
Many - Tree Sparrows
Tomorrow should be another great day to get out and enjoy the birding.
