Unfortunately it turned out to be a crappy day with rain or drizzle the whole time I was there, so birding was limited. The water level is finally being let down there, and mudflats are beginning to appear at the north end near Pancoastburg. At North Chagrin Reservation of Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga Co., there
was seemingly a turnover of birds last night. Over the past few days there
have been many White-crowned, White-throated, Song and Swamp Sparrows as
well as a couple of Chipping Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos and Eastern Towhee.
Today had my first American Tree Sparrow of the season and numbers of other
species reduced.
Belated reports: We had a Green Heron hanging out in the ponds near the
nature center until at least Sunday, Oct. 22 - the latest date for this
location in 20 years of record-keeping (although not a record for NE Ohio by
far). Late at Headlands Beach State Nature Preserve on Saturday was a male
Wilson's Warbler, found by Gary Meszaros and seen by Ray Hannikman, Jerry
Talkington and myself. Late date for our region I believe is October 29 (by
Hannikman). Also, I have not seen Chimney Swifts locally since Saturday.
