My wife and I did some hiking this morning down near Old Man's cave. The
birding theme of the hike ended up being "Oh, there's another Red-breasted
Nuthatch." We double-backed on our hike but I'm pretty certain we had at
least 10 nuthatches in a 2-mile stretch of trail. At one point, I also
thought I had a distant Purple Finch singing but could not track the culprit
down again.
There was also signifcant migrant passerine activity along the creek from
Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls. Black-throated Green Warblers were the most
numerous warbler species and some were still singing.
