This is a sum-up of some of the interesting things seen on the BFEC (Brown Family Environmental Center) Wed. Morning Bird walk. Not much Warbler action was going on, but what was apparent was a step up in Sparrow numbers and species. There was a Good sized flock of Chipping Sparrows, which I personally haven't seen around in weeks. Also there were many Field and Song sparrows about, We also had a lone LINCOLN's SPARROW by the bikepath near where it crosses Laymon Road. There were Common Yellowthroats around still, one singing, as well as Tennessee Warblers. Lots of Bluebirds, seemingly in flocks now. We Had an Eastern Phoebe by the ponds, Chimney Swifts circling over head, and Warbling Vireo weakly singing.
Next week after meeting at the usual parking lot by the visitor center on Laymon road, we may venture over to the perched grassy wetland on the other side of rt. 229 road. This held a lot of migrant Swamp and other sparrows last year, but I had checked it too late for the good stuff like Nelson's and LeConte''s. There are probably going to be some Swamp Sparrows there, they nested there. The sedges and smartweeds present will be the draw for these migrant sparrows, So we'll see what will be there. The week after that We'll probably do the same thing. Wearing ankle high waterproof boots may be a good idea.

While all of these birds were interesting, they were blown away by the awesome Sabine's Gull I was lucky enough to get to see today at the Fish Hatchery Lake St. Mary's. Lifebird! I have pretty good (for my humble digiscope) photo's, which I will post later tonight, I'll send a mesg. here when I've done so. It was very exciting. There were also lots of waterfowl moving about, big flocks of Teal and other ducks. I even spotted a couple sets of Green Winged Teal, as well as the other birds people have already mentioned.

    Good Birding.
