As per Greg Bennett's reporting from Friday/Saturday, the Red-necked Grebe
was very visible from the South Main Parking Lot #2 on Nimisila Reservoir, in
southern Summit County.
South Main Street to Nimisila Road, under the Manchester High School sign,
the parking lot; go to the boat launch ramp; the RNG was off to the right,
toward the dam; it's MUCH bigger than a horned grebe, but otherwise typically
grebe-like; note the very long, light-colored bill, and the pattern of gray and
white on the neck and cheeks;
We got very good looks from the dam, located off Jones avenue maybe a 1/2
mile south of there, also off of South Main St.
Along with this lovely life-lister, some of the other notables:
-Red-breasted Merganser
-Ruddy Duck
-Bufflehead
-Hooded Merganser
-Redhead
-Canvasback
-American Black Duck
-Mallard
-Common Goldeneye
-Horned Grebe
-Mute Swan
GB Heron
Thanks, Greg, and the unknown 'lady-birder' that re-found the grebe this
afternoon for us.
