I have a couple of questions regarding woodcocks. I live in Central Ohio and have never seen the woodcock mating behavior. I was wondering if someone could suggest an area to visit where I might be likely to see this.

My second question....

Late last year I found a woodcock at the Glacier Ridge Metro Park.

As it walked past me (I was on the raised walkway and it came out of the cattails in the formerly swampy area) it showed me this.

I interpreted this as a threat display. Is that the correct interpretation? It displayed like this as it came fairly close to me and until it was perhaps 15-20 feet away.

Thanks
Tim Hutson
