Hello All,

This has been a great fall for nocturnal flying insects on which nighthawks feed -- overnight low temperatures in Columbus have been in the 50s which is close to the average daily high.  Usually by now we've had at least one bug-killing freeze as well.  The nighthawks we are seeing are both late and lucky.

Two nighthawks--probably the common variety--were seem from my back porch flying south this morning. October birds are uncommon, but there are local records for well into November on very rare occasions.
