Subtitle this one as 'Dead Day along the Darby'. The Columbus Audubon hike to several of the migrant traps along the Creek was rewarded with very few migrants this morning. The group started at Darby Bend Lakes, then moved down to the Dyer's Mill trail. I later made a brief stop at the Trail of the Ancients. All are good migrant spots, but migrants were in very limited supply this morning. Highlights included:

Raptors - 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk and a ragged Red-tailed Hawk were at Dyer's Mill, but little else other than a few Turkey vultures was noted.

Hummingbird - a single Ruby-throat was still working flowers along Trail of the Ancients

Flycatchers - a few Pewees and a Phoebe were at Darby Bend Lakes

Vireos - only 1 Red-eyed was at Trail of the Ancients

Thrushes - had only 1-2 Swainson's at each stop, mostly heard rather than seen

Mimids - a few Catbirds were at each stop

Cedar Waxwings - a small flock was at DBL, while a single bird appeared lost at Dyer's Mill Trail.

Warblers - numbers were very low, but diversity was OK. Species included Black-throated Blue (female at Dyer's Mill), Black-thr.Green (2-3), Magnolia (3+), Yellow-throated (1 at Darby bend Lakes), Chesnut-sided (Trail of Ancients), Yellow-rumped (DBL), Cape May (DBL-heard), Black&White (Trail of Ancients), Ovenbird (heard Dyer's Mill & Trail of Ancients), Redstart (DBL, TrAnc), Common Yellowthroat (3+ Trail of Ancients)

Tanagers - 1 Scarlet was at Trail of Ancients

Grosbeaks-Buntings - Rose-br.Grosbeaks were calling at both Dyer's Mill and Trail of Ancients. Indigo Buntings were calling at DBL and Trail of Ancients

The weather was beautiful, so the group still enjoyed the morning. The paucity of birds was puzzling, however, and I'm at a loss to explain it given how good the prior few days were for migrants.
