Interesting day: during one of the light showers this morning, I looked out
my kitchen window and saw a common yellowthroat under my forsythia bush. At
the same time, a house wren was inspecting the hollow cross-pole that
supports my clothesline. S/He ducked into it for a while, but apparently it
didn't suit and s/he went elsewhere. Errands and responsibilities kept me
occupied until after 2, when I did some driving around one of my OBBA II
blocks: 59C6SE, Utica 6. Wow! I found a road that somehow I had missed
last summer, a gravel/dirt road that is not maintained in winter, and
suddenly I felt as if I had been transported to Shawnee National Forest!

Best birds along this road:

Great crested flycatcher

House wren

Gray catbird

Blue-gray gnatcatcher

White-eyed vireo

Warbling vireo

Yellow-rumped warbler

Yellow-throated warbler

Palm warbler

Black and white warbler

Common yellowthroat

Hooded warbler

And it wasn't even the best time of day to be birding!

There were barn swallows at every farm building, and chimney swifts in a
couple of places. I wonder if they nest in abandoned concrete silos.

And all the usual suspects, including evidence of probable nesting activity
by several. I'll be entering them on the OBBA website this evening.

At the bridge on Snyder Rd., I had northern rough-winged swallows and a
belted kingfisher.

Not bad for a couple of hours.
