Was not able to relocate the Red-necked Phalarope tonight at Pickerington Ponds Metro Park in the pond to the north of the Wood Duck viewing blind off of Bowen Road. Other reports from people who tried earlier today were similar, it seems the little lady has gone north. BUT there were some very nice breeding condition STILT SANDPIPERS, and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, amongst the other birds present.
At Blacklick Woods Metro Park just north of there I had a decent day of birds. The feeders at the Nature Center (open 12-8pm) were a good place to hang out with multiple Indigo Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Field Sparrows, Eastern Towhee, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Hairy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, juvenile Downy Woodpeckers!, and on the pond beyond we saw a mother Wood Duck with her 5 ducklings, Belted Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Mallards, and our misguided American Wigeon who is still hanging around his female mallard. Not to mention the White-tailed deer, Coyote, Muskrat, Raccoon, E. Cottontail, E. Chipmunks, E. Gray Squirrel, and E. Fox Squirrels we've seen out the windows too. We may have some odd looking ducklings in the near future. heres a list of highlights for each locale.
