I had a chance to revisit Hoover Reservoir yesterday and see how the waterfowl migration was changing from Sunday. I stopped briefly at Galena (Areas M & N), Wiese Rd, SSunbury causeway, Maxtown launch (where I talked with Charlie Bombaci), and Walnut Street launch. Interestingly, I didn't stop a Oxbow Island, so my numbers of Red-br.Merganses and Ruddy Ducks were far below those found by CHarlie.highlights for the afternoon included:

Diving Ducks - dominant birds, especially Lesser Scaup which were 600+ with sizeable rafts in several locations. Also had 70+ Bufflehead, 60+ Ring-necks, and a few Redhead. Could there have been Greater Scaup out there? Very likely, but most of the flocks were quite far out on the reservoir. 50+ Ruddy Ducks were also around, but this omits the flock of 100+ seen off Oxbow by Charlie.

Mergansers - still quite a few Red-br.Mergs around, with some 200. I also had a few pairs of Hooded, but no Commons today

Dabbling Ducks - no great numbers, but did have widespread Mallards and 15+ Gadwall rafting off Walnut St ramp.

Other waterbirds - good afternoon for Horned Grebes with 40+; also had 2 Pied-bills and 12 cormorants, all in the upper reservoir above the Sunbury bridge.

Sandhill Crane - had one bird flying high and northbound over Galena

Raptors - no Eagles or Osprey, but did have small numbers of Turkey Vultures at every stop. Red-tails at Sunbury & Maxtown.

Tree Swallows - had small #s at both Galena and Maxtown launch
