I went up to do some atlasing for OBBA2 today in NE Ashtabula Co.  I made a couple visits to Conneaut harbor during the morning also.  The very strong winds weren't very conducive to finding potential nesters.  I didn't find anything too exciting while atlasing, but did get 3 Am. kestrels, 6 flycatcher species, some vireos and warblers, and bobolink & e. meadowlarks.  There were some interesting waterbirds at Conneaut harbor:  a hen greater scaup (my first ever in June in Ohio), a fem/imm common merganser, 8 bald eagles, semipalmated plover, semipalmated sandpiper, great black-backed gull, and 2 Caspian terns.  It was blowing 25+ mph from the west there.  The L. Erie water level was extremely high--most of the outer spit was under water so there wasn't much shorebird habitat.  I haven't seen the water that high there since the 1990's!  The low areas in the interior of the spit were all holding water.  I walked around through there quite a bit
but didn't flush much except an unexpected wood duck.  There are huge carp in there now too.  When all this water starts receding there should be real good habitat for shorebirds and others when the southbound movement gets going.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
