Cleveland gulling update Sunday 1/15

Once again the diversity and numbers of gulls off Wendy Park were great. While overall numbers have dropped to around 9 - 11,000 birds, large gulls make up at least 3 - 4,000 of that total. Highlights included at least 2 Thayer's Gulls (2 first cycles), at least one Glaucous (adult) and at least 4 Iceland Gulls (2 adults, 2 first cycles). Great Black-backed numbers are good, and Lesser Black-backed Gulls were present in just under double-digits.

Waterfowl abound in the area with 16 species recorded today with highlights of Surf Scoter and Long-tailed Duck. Best sites for waterfowl (west to east):

Cahoon Park in Bay Village
Rocky River Park in Rocky River
Lakewood Park in Lakewood
Edgewater Park
Edgewater Marina
Wendy Park
East 9th street pier
East 55th street Marina
East side of Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve
Sim's Park in Euclid
